Support FANHS National with GiveBIG Washington

Categories: News

Dear FANHS Family and Friends,

We hope you are safe and well during this challenging and historic time. The Coronavirus has impacted us all, and as Filipinos in the United States, we are in a particularly unique position because of the number in our community who are working on the frontlines as nurses and postal workers, living in multigenerational households, and experiencing the presence of comorbidities such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Filipino Americans are also at the frontlines of administering vaccines, fighting for justice, and advocating for our communities. In true Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) fashion, we can collect, document, preserve, and disseminate the stories from this unique time period. Doing that, however, takes resources.

On Tuesday-Wednesday, May 4-5, 2021, FANHS is participating in GiveBIG, a 48-hour giving event. Donations are being accepted through When we give, we take a proactive step towards creating the society we want to live in, giving history to the next generation.

In 1982, FANHS was founded by Dr. Dorothy Laigo Cordova with the mission:

“To promote understanding, education, enlightenment, appreciation and enrichment through the identification, gathering, preservation and dissemination of the history and culture of Filipino Americans in the United States.”

Now with 40 chapters across the country, a National Pinoy Archives in Seattle, WA, and the FANHS National Museum in Stockton, CA, the presence of FANHS is felt every year by our sponsorship of Filipino American History Month (#FAHM) each October. Our educational programs, research, publications, exhibits, conferences, and more contribute to building our communities and fulfilling our FANHS mission.

All of this has been done by a grassroots, completely volunteer-run organization. For 39 years, Auntie Dorothy, now age 89, has been the non-salaried Executive Director of FANHS, managing the National Office, daily inquiries, research grants, and so much more. She would like to eventually transition to “Resident Historian” so she can focus on her many research projects. Our Board of Trustees believes that can happen with broad-based support from community folks like you.

Please join us in honoring Auntie Dorothy and supporting the development and growth of our mission by donating to FANHS on May 4-5, 2021, at! Any amount, big or small, will go a long way, and donations are tax-deductible. For example: $5 will help buy mounting supplies for our next exhibit, $10 will help buy postage stamps, $50 will help pay the internet bills, $100 will help pay insurance, $250 will support a student to attend the next conference, and $1700 will help pay the rent! If you are unable to help financially at this time, please consider sharing this with others who may be.

Maraming Salamat/Many Thanks,

Emily P. Lawsin
FANHS National President

Bobby Dalton G. Roy
FANHS National Treasurer

P.S. Summer 2022
We hope you will join us to celebrate Auntie Dorothy’s 90th Birthday and the 40th Anniversary of FANHS next year for the 19th Biennial National Conference to be held in the Summer of 2022, right where it all began: in Seattle!
