FANHS-WI: The Art of Belonging Presentation and Fellowship,

The Art of Belonging is a traveling program that combines:

  • Dramatic readings of adapted short stories by Bienvenido Santos

    • The Scent of Apples

    • The Day the Dancers Came

    • Immigration Blues

  • Archival home movies (16 mm) filmed in the 1930s–1950s by Nicholas “Uncle Nick” Viernes, part of the Estrella Alamar / Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago collection

The goal is to honor Filipino diaspora stories in the Midwest, focusing on everyday life and belonging. The program runs under 1 hour, followed by a community conversation and shared meal.

The tour is supported by Illinois Humanities (Activating History Grant) and Chicago DCASE, in partnership with Circa Pintig, Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago, FANHS Greater Chicago.
