Tribute to Fred Cordova

2014 May 31 + FANHS LA (Fred Cordova BACK) + address_edited-1LOS ANGELES, California – On Saturday, May 31, 2014, from 2:00-4:00pm, the Los Angeles Chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) and Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) will be collaborating together at 3200 West Temple Street in city of Los Angeles, located in L.A.’s Historic Filipinotown.  The purpose of this free and public event is to honor and pay tribute to a legend in our community, FRED CORDOVA, who passed away last December 21, 2013.Our hope is to share with young people, community leaders, and fellow FANHS Los Angeles Metropolitan members the importance of community work, along with the lessons that were passed on by FRED CORDOVA.  We plan to share stories, experiences, and break down the philosophical message on why our community needs to document not only our history, but to also pass on these lessons with our young people.FANHS LA will be inviting middle school, high school, and college students to participate in this event as we share videos, trailers, and other documented information on the importance of preserving Filipino American experiences, history, and struggles.  At this point, we have high school students supporting middle school students in carpooling and arranging ways for young people from Carson, CA to attend this event.  Community members are encouraged to bring any memorabilia, favorite quotes, and other positive information that can be shared with others in attendance.We plan to record and document this event, and if there are individuals who would like to submit any pre-recorded material sharing a personal experience with Fred Cordova, please send a Facebook Message to Ronald Buenaventura, and we’ll make sure that it will be shared and displayed for others to see.FANHS LA will also be raising funds to support Filipino American middle school students as we plan to debut our new gear to help promote Filipino American experiences.  We will be selling never-before-seen items, such as new t-shirts and other memorabilia to promote Filipino American community awareness.Please save the date, spend the time, and help spread the word.  Light snacks and refreshments will be available for those who attend.For more information, please feel free to contact Ronald Buenaventura (424) 201-9841 or email: sikeyuh@yahoo.comFind us on Facebook under “FANHS Los Angeles Chapter”Find us on Instagram under “#WeAreFANHSLA”For more information on FRED CORDOVA:Asian Weeklyhttp://www.nwasianweekly.com/2014/01/fred-cordova-remembered-legendary-leader/Seattle Timeshttp://www.legacy.com/obituaries/seattletimes/obituary.aspx?n=frederic-a-cordova&pid=168927585&fhid=23429
